Definition
Just as a movie has a trailer to entice people to watch, this drama strategy allows children to select the main elements of a story and present it in a short presentation.
Purpose
- To recall sequence of events
- To precis the main events in a narrative
- To act out a character, showing emotion ready for writing using ‘show-don’t-tell’
Example
The children could create a trailer for The Great Fire of London, presenting the key parts of the story (starting in a bakery, an exceptionally dry summer in a city riddled with Plague) without giving away all of the details, just as a trailer would do about an action movie with high energy, suspense and intensity. ‘From the pen of Samuel Pepys, comes this year’s blockbuster…’
